    Friendship-Outing (9) : Stroll in Fukagawa on June 14, 2016
On June 14, we visited Fukagawa. This was the 9th Friendship Outing of IBS Inter-Culture. We had 11 in our group. Students from the Japanese, French and Culture classes participated. We walked around Kiyosumi Garden and visited the Sumo stables area. For lunch, we ordered Fukagawa Meshi which is a speciality of the area, a bowl of rice with clams. On our break, we stopped at the Blue Bottle Coffee shop which many people have recently been talking about. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about Fukagawa which flourished as a town with canals in the Edo era.

Outing (8) : Visit of Imperial Palace on the March 11, 2016
We participated in an Imperial Palace visit organized by the Imperial Household Agency. Our group of sixteen were from the Japanese and French classes along with their teachers. For our tour, we strolled around the garden for an hour.
The view of skyscrapers in the Marunouchi business district was most impressive. It is our ordinary everyday world that the Emperor observes from inside of the palace court. Even though it was a freezing cold day, we spent a happy and friendly time together.

    Friendship-outing : mini-trip on the tramway Arakawa-Line
Our seventh outing of the year was held on June 11, 2015. With 18 participants, we started our stroll for the north area of Tokyo by tram from Minowa-bashi station. Our one-day ticket allowed us to have unlimited travel on the tram.
First, we went to Asuka-yama. This park, famous for its cherry blossoms, was constructed by Shogun Yoshimune Tokugawa for the public in the Edo Era. The cherry blossoms scene on the hill was painted in Japanese prints “Ukiyo-e”.
Next, we visited Sugamo area. It is known as the “Harajuku for grandmothers”. Sugamo used to be one of the inn towns in Edo Era. Today, not only elderly people but foreign tourists come to this town to visit the temple and browse its small shops. The town has restaurants, grocery stores, clothing boutiques, and souvenirs shops. The prices are rather cheap compared to the center of Tokyo. We enjoyed lunch at a Sushi restaurant. It was such a beautiful day. We walked a lot, ate well and enjoyed our conversations.

    Kamakura Outing
On November 28th, we went to Kita-Kamakura and enjoyed the leaves cloaked in autumn hues. There were lots of people everywhere. We visited two lesser known temples, Meigetsu-in and Chojuzen-ji. These temples have very beautiful maples and their gardens are open to the public especially for this season. For lunch we enjoyed eating “kaiseki-ryori” (Japanese traditional dishes) in a very friendly atmosphere.
